Summer in Northern California is unlike any where else! I've said this before in several of my other blogs, but it is very true. If you are fortunate enough to live here or are planning on visiting / vacationing in the coming months, you know what I mean! We have everything. Beaches, lakes, mountains and national parks, deserts, snow, what ever you are interested in, it's here.

Because of this, Summer is my kids' favorite season for obvious reasons, but it's also mine because we get to spend most of our time outside. Much to our excitement, outdoors is where most of the best activities are this year.

1. River Rafting on the American River

If you're up for a quintessential Summer thrill, you need to river raft down the American River! You can be a beginner or an expert with 3 classes (3, 4, 5) to choose from. Reservations required.

2. Parasailing at Lake Tahoe

3. Placer County Wine Trail

Get your drink on with 19 different wineries on the Placer County Wine Trail.

4. Tahoe Treetop Adventure Park

5. Backpacking in Yosemite

6. 2,000 ft cable car climb at Squaw Valley

Love an amazing view? This Summer activity is perfect for you! Take a ride on the 2,000 foot Cable Car at Squaw Valley in Olympic Valley, CA and enjoy 10 minutes of panoramic views and enjoy the fresh mountain air.

7. Horseback Riding at Seahorse Ranch 

Sea Horse Ranch is located on the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1, Cabrillo Highway) in Half Moon Bay, the flower and pumpkin growing capital of the world. Ride along the coastline and breathe the fresh ocean air and enjoy the scenery. All levels of experience welcome.

8. Bike the American River Trail

Get outside and take or run along 32 miles of biking and running trails on the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail this Summer! You'll pass through several recreational parks and swimming areas along the way. Perfect for lunch breaks and rest stops before continuing on.

9. Roseville Friday Flicks - Movies in the Park

All Summer you and your family can enjoy FREE movies in the park, hosted by the Roseville Coalition of Neighborhood Associations (RCONA). See the full schedule here.

10. Tahoe Cup - Paddle Racing Series

According to Tahoe Cup, "The TAHOE CUP Paddle Racing Series offers both the recreational Paddler and the race enthusiast an opportunity to participate in SUP, prone paddle board or OC1 class races on Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe May-September. The 2016 series invites all paddling craft to participate."

11. Auburn Art Walk 2016

Save the date for every first Friday of the month through October - the Auburn Art Walk has officially kicked off! The Art Walk is meant to showcase small businesses and artists. Get acquainted with the local art community while enjoying the city with friends and family.

12. Folsom Pro Rodeo

Folsom Pro Rodeo has been kicking it on July 4th for 56 years! The patriotic event offers family fun with non-stop rodeo action, outstanding nightly fireworks, mutton busting, a high American flag which arrives by skydiver and much more!

13.  Sac Town Bike Bus

The Sacramento Bike Bus is a local favorite! Grab a group of friends and family and book a beer tour of this iconic bus. Named the highest-quality luxury bus ever constructed, riders can enjoy beer and wine with music and comfortable seating.

15. California State Fair

17. The Music Man - Presented by the Davis Musical Theatre Company

As described by DMTC, The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band he vows to organize - this despite the fact he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall. Recommended for the whole family.

18. Roseville 4th of July Celebration and Parade

Come out for the return of the Independence Day parade! The parade begins at 9 am at the intersection of Riverside/Vernon/Douglas, continues along Vernon Street past the Civic Center, turns right on Lincoln Street before turning right again onto Park Drive. Be sure to arrive early to get your preferred viewing spot.

19.  Fantasy Food Truck Showdown: Round Two

The Fantasy Food Truck Showdown is an annual competition, featuring the best of the food truck and craft beer scene.

During this event, the Food Trucks will be provided with a mystery ingredient box, which they will use to prepare a dish that pairs with crafts beers from various hosting breweries. The dishes will then be prepared by celebrity and industry judges! Attendees can get in on the action by purchasing a food truck bass, which includes a small plate and a beer, with an opportunity to vote for your favorite Food Truck dish.

20. Speakeasy Tour & Pub Crawl

With prohibition long gone and Sacramento's summer nights heating up, a Saturday night spent with a cocktail and splash of history is the perfect recipe for fun. During this event you will be taken on a special excursion where you’ll explore prohibition-era watering holes and learn fascinating tidbits about the people and events that shaped Sacramento's early history. The tour begins at the speakeasy-style River City Saloon with three additional stops on the tour, including the famed Delta King riverboat, which once served as a 'floating' hotspot for illegal drinking, jazz bands, gambling and fine dining. Complete your bootlegging experience with a craft cocktail, which will be available for purchase at each stop.

21. Sacramento Beer Train

The Sacramento Beer Train is a Sacramento area favorite! With each three hour train ride, you get a souvenir glass to taste and drink with,  3-4 Nor Cal breweries and their freshly-tapped selections, an item from the grill menu, all while you enjoy live music from the train.
